Michael J. Bonesteel

Biographical Information

Mr. Bonesteel is the Senior Partner at Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP.  He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee as well as the International Academy of Trial Attorneys Long Range Planning Committee. For over thirty years, his practice has been concentrated in the defense of civil litigation, with particular emphasis in pharmaceutical, medical device and also has experience in chemical and agricultural/chemical litigation.

Mr. Bonesteel has served as national coordinating counsel as well as coordinating counsel for clients in which he has been responsible for all phases of litigation and trial. In the pharmaceutical arena, Mr. Bonesteel has worked with global pharmaceutical companies and was very involved in Aspirin litigation cases, Reyes Syndrome litigation cases and pHisoHex litigation matters. Most notably, Mr. Bonsteel has been a part of legal teams on national hip and knee implant litigation as well as breast and penile implant litigation for a client who is a leading health and personal care company. As national counsel for major manufacturing companies, he has handled numerous chemical burns and exposure matters. Mr. Bonesteel handled Evangelatos v. Student Science Store, a definitive California Prop 51 appellate case, in the Supreme Court. He has also handled AgChem cases for worldwide chemical companies.

Mr. Bonesteel is an active member in the Defense Research Institute, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California, the Southern California Defense Counsel and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Mr. Bonesteel received his B.A. from Stanford University in 1961 and his J.D. from the University of Southern California in 1966, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. He is admitted to practice in the State of California Courts; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, Southern and Eastern Districts; the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals; and the U.S. Supreme Court.
