Michael J. Leahy
Biographical Information
Mr. Leahy is a Partner in Haight, Brown & Bonesteel’s Los Angeles office. He is a member of the Risk Management & Insurance Law Practice Group. His practice is devoted to areas of insurance related legal issues, including analysis of insurance coverage and reinsurance issues, rendering opinions, drafting of insurance policies and endorsements, insurance coverage litigation, agents and brokers advice and litigation, first and third party bad faith litigation, expert witness testimony and acting as monitoring/supervisory claims counsel.
He has expertise in virtually all lines of property & casualty insurance, including D&O, E&O, EPL, property, marine, CGL, workers compensation, aviation, auto, and homeowner coverages. He has drafted policies for judge’s liability and educator’s liability programs, as well as liquidated damages, food and drug recall, D&O and auto polices.
Representative Experience:
- Acted as national coverage counsel for a major domestic insurer for all claims arising out of the Clergy Sexual Abuse litigation involving the Catholic Church
- Expert witness in New York Reinsurance Arbitration involving multi-million dollar claims
- Acted for a British insurer on a multi-million dollar warehouse loss involving rugs from the Middle East
- Representation of a German insurer in bad faith litigation
- Representation of a U.S. domestic insurer in a multi-million dollar property loss claim involving spoilage of wine
- Acting as monitoring claims counsel for a consortium of U.S. and British insurers on a major A&E account
- Representation of a domestic insurer/reinsurer, who insured a manufacturer of perchloroethylene, in environmental coverage litigation involving water contamination at multiple sites in multiple states and US protectorates. The majority of the claims encompass clean up costs and harm to the water table.
