Mr. Moriarty is the Lead Partner in the Risk Management and Insurance Law Practice Group. His practice involves the analysis of insurance coverage issues and rendering coverage opinions. He also represents primary and excess insurers and insureds in litigation, non-litigation and regulatory matters in addition to representing primary and excess insurers in first and third-party bad faith litigation. He has represented numerous insurance companies in litigation involving areas of environmental claims, construction defect claims, patent infringement and trademark claims, first party/property and casualty claims.
Mr. Moriarty was instrumental in assisting a major insurance company with insurance and bad faith litigation arising from the 1994 Northridge earthquake, which was one of the largest natural disasters in United States history. During this time, he was responsible for coordination and management of over 300 lawsuits arising from the earthquake. He advised the company on claims handling issues and represented the company before the California Department of Insurance and before legislative committee hearings. In addition to his experience in bad faith litigation, he has represented companies in litigation arising from third-party and first-party automobile liability and casualty claims, including uninsured and underinsured motorist claims.
Mr. Moriarty earned his B.A. from Chapman University in 1978. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1971 to 1978 and speaks German and Danish. He earned his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1982. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel.
