Robert N. Schiff

Biographical Information

Mr. Schiff is a Partner in the Risk Management & Insurance Law Practice Group. For 30 years, he has specialized in counseling clients about insurance coverage, risk management and reinsurance matters. His coverage practice includes property, liability, inland marine and workers' compensation issues. He also advises brokers, risk managers and corporate counsel about a variety of risk financing and risk management questions. In addition, Mr. Schiff is among the few California-based lawyers experienced in handling reinsurance arbitrations and negotiations, representing both ceding companies and reinsurers in California and elsewhere.

A frequent speaker at insurance education programs, Mr. Schiff has made presentations at conferences sponsored by the Excess/Surplus Lines Claims Association, the Reinsurance Association of America, the  Insurance Educational Association and the Property Loss Research Bureau, among others. He is the author of several articles on insurance, risk management and reinsurance topics, as well as co-author of the introductory chapter in CEB's California Liability Insurance Practice.

Mr. Schiff is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, where he has served as Chair of the Reinsurance, Excess and Surplus Lines Section and is also an active member of the FDCC's Insurance Coverage Section. In addition, he is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute and the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California.

Mr. Schiff earned his B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania 1969 and his J.D. from Boalt Hall Law School at the University of California, Berkeley in 1973.
