J. Alan Warfield

Biographical Information

Mr. Warfield is a Partner in the Appellate Practice Group. He is a certified specialist in appellate law, as certified by the California Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California.

Mr. Warfield’s published appellate decisions include: St. Agnes Medical Center v. PacifiCare of California, 31 Cal. 4th 1187 (Cal. 2003); Schwarzenegger v. Fred Martin Motor Co., 374 F.3d 797 (9th Cir. 2004); Valentine v. Membrila Ins. Services, Inc., 118 Cal. App. 4th 462 (Cal. Ct. App. 2004); Park v. Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co., 108 Cal. App. 4th 595 (Cal. Ct. App. 2003); Morrison v. Rudolph, 103 Cal. App. 4th 506 (Cal. Ct. App. 2002); Bolton v. Trope, 75 Cal. App. 4th 1021 (Cal. Ct. App. 1999); Smith v. Superior Court, 60 Cal. App. 4th 573 (Cal. Ct. App. 1997); and Bormann v. Chevron United States, 56 Cal. App. 4th 260 (Cal. Ct. App. 1997).

In addition to his appellate practice, Mr. Warfield has worked extensively on trial-level litigation matters often involving tort litigation, professional malpractice, environmental litigation and regulatory work. He has also represented clients in consumer law cases through the firm’s pro bono program, all of which have presented a wide variety of issues, including fraud, negligent construction, and breach of contract.

He authored an article for the American Law Institute - American Bar Association entitled "The Consequences of Failure to Respond to Requests for Admission," which was published in the May 2006 edition of The Practical Litigator. He has also represented clients in consumer law cases through the firm’s pro bono program, all of which have presented a wide variety of issues, including fraud, negligent construction, and breach of contract. 

Mr. Warfield earned his B.S. in mathematics from the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1990 and his J.D. from the University of San Diego in 1996. He is a member of the State Bar of California, John M. Langston Bar Association, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Appellate Courts Committee.
