Attorneys in our General Liability Litigation Practice Group have had considerable experience with a wide range of business and legal issues, including premises liability, personal injury/tort litigation, business and commercial litigation. We are committed to working in a variety of dispute resolution settings that offer attractive alternatives to traditional litigation.
Personal Injury & Tort
Our attorneys deal with the traditional general casualty cases, but they are also frequently involved in a number of matters which could generically fall under the rubric of security. Haight Brown & Bonesteel currently represents a national retailer with respect to all of their asset protection issues, which involve such claims as false arrest.
Our attorneys have also handled numerous fire-related cases, generally defending against fire subrogation matters and has developed a particular capability to handle proper investigation and determination of the cause and origin of fires, particularly with fires of an electrical origin.
Premises Liability
Over the past 75 years, Haight has handled thousands of general liability cases, representing a wide range of clients including:
- retail chains
- financial institutions
- restaurants
- sports arenas
- shopping centers
- parking lots and garages
- construction companies
- small business owners
Haight has had continued success defending premises liability cases which involve everything from property damage claims to serious personal injuries and wrongful death. Our attorneys have the ability to handle essentially every type of dangerous or defective condition of property as well as intentional criminal acts of third parties including robbery, rape and murder. We have also initiated programs with some of our larger institutional clients to coordinate more effective risk management policies and procedures in order to reduce the number of lawsuits filed and to increase the probability of success on cases that are filed.
For example, our representation of a leading, global oil and gas company illustrates how we effectively combined substantive legal expertise with technology tools to cost-effectively manage the company's personal injury litigation arising from its operation of more than 1,700 retail outlets in the western United States. By developing a secure on-line database that manages all of the documentation related to personal injury litigation that can be accessed from anywhere at anytime, we created a real-time, paperless environment for the company's in-house counsel and executives that calculates the value of all outstanding claims providing an extraordinary tool for cost control and budget projections.
