Mr. Thompson is an attorney in Haight Brown & Bonesteel’s San Francisco office. He is a member of the Construction Law and Business Solutions Practice Groups. His practice is concentrated in all phases of litigation with an emphasis on business and construction law. Mr. Thompson has represented general contractors, subcontractors, designers and developers on matters involving delay and impact claims, stop notices, compliance with the Public Contracts Code, delays, deficiency, lost profits and diminution of value, which involved complex contract, indemnity and insurance issues. He also has significant experience prosecuting and defending scaffolding and construction site injury and wrongful death claims, including several jury trials.
Mr. Thompson has participated in arbitrations, mediations and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings and has substantial experience in conducting depositions of plaintiffs, defendants, third-parties and expert witnesses. Mr. Thompson has drafted and argued dispositive motions, briefs, ex parte applications and motions-in-limine, as well as planned and prepared discovery strategy, requests and responses, including extensive motion practice.
Prior to joining Haight Brown & Bonesteel, Mr. Thompson practiced in New York City at a highly respected trial counsel firm where he second chaired a jury trial involving a defectively manufactured product. During law school, he served as a research assistant to the president of the American Civil Liberties Union and was responsible for important research on the legality of mandatory drug testing in the public school system and the U.S. Justice Department’s implementation of the Patriot Act. He also clerked at a large international law firm. While earning his undergraduate degree, he served as an intern for a member of the United States Senate and a sitting judge of the Twentieth Judicial District of Colorado.
