Overview
Garrett Smee is a member of the firm’s Construction Law, Employment & Labor and General Liability Practice Groups. The primary focus of Mr. Smee’s practice is defending clients in complex, high exposure matters involving construction law, employment and labor and personal injury actions arising from general liability matters that often result in catastrophic injuries.
Mr. Smee’s current and former clients include developers, contractors and subcontractors, Fortune 500 companies, insurance companies, national and regional hospitality businesses, banks and retailers, public and municipal entities and their employees, other businesses and individuals.
Mr. Smee has served as trial counsel in 19 jury trials in state and federal courts throughout California. He effectively handles his matters from inception and pre-litigation strategy and analysis through law and motion, discovery, trial and the appellate process.
His background in construction law includes serving as Cumis counsel, acting as general counsel to solar and roofing companies, litigating numerous construction defect and breach of contract matters and analyzing insurance coverage issues.
Mr. Smee’s employment & labor experience includes race, age and sex discrimination, religious discrimination, sexual harassment, civil rights, disability discrimination, wrongful termination and wage and hour issues. He has represented governmental entities, private businesses, employees and employers, individual business owners and retailers in numerous PAGA matters, discrimination cases, and FEHA/Title VII retaliation claims. He also provides counsel related to employee handbooks and risk management efforts to develop preventative measures and avoid issues in the workplace.
Mr. Smee lives with his wife and three children in Escondido, California. He attends Emmanuel Faith Community Church on the weekends and he enjoys golfing, fishing and watching Major League Baseball and NCAA football. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Western Sierra Law School in Oceanside, California.
