Steve is a recognized leader in construction law with more than 20 years of experience. Steve’s expertise comes from handling hundreds of matters, years of cultivating relationships, and by immersing himself in industry news and events. Clients retain Steve because of his expertise, legal abilities, and his total devotion to client satisfaction. Whether helping with a contract, guiding a client through a difficult situation, or complex litigation, Steve’s knowledge and know-how allow him to better understand the needs of his clients, be a more effective and confident advocate, and deliver consistent results. Steve shares his expertise and insights with others by routinely speaking at conferences, seminars or webinars, and he is constantly writing about legal issues faced by owners, builders and contractors. Steve also serves as leader of Haight’s Construction Law Practice Group.
Over the years, Steve has helped clients with matters and claims involving residential, commercial and public projects. Steve has been involved in construction litigation or claims involving public facilities and infrastructure such as hospitals, airports, schools, railways, highways, and a multi-billion dollar government laser. He has vast experience in claims for private works of improvement ranging from high rise condominiums and single family homes to affordable housing projects, movie theaters, casinos, solar farms and shopping centers. On January 29, 2016, Steve received the ABA Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Service Award. In 2013 and again in 2014, the Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco selected Steve to receive an Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service certificate. In 2004, Steve received a Certificate of Recognition from the California Senate as an Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service.
Steve was born and raised in the Bay Area. He loves spending time with his daughters, whether it be at home, on some adventure, or just at the movies. Steve is enthusiastic about life and has competed in half-marathons, triathlons, mud-runs, Alcatraz swims, 200 mile relay races, rowing events, and has run the Bay-to-Breakers over twenty times. Steve has safely guided hundreds of swimmers, including blind swimmers, firefighters, police officers, EMT’s and disabled veterans, across the frigid waters of San Francisco Bay in many open water swim competitions from Alcatraz.
Mr. Cvitanovic has significant experience in the area of employment law, including claims involving wrongful termination, reasonable accommodation, unpaid wages, whistle blower, and discrimination based on age, gender, race and sexual orientation. He has also counseled clients on confidentiality and non-compete agreements and employment policies and procedures.
