Partner Greg Rolen (general counsel for the Orange County Board of Education) recently appeared before the Orange County Board of Education at a board meeting to report on a success story that resulted in a win-win for the Orange County Board of Education, County Boards of Education throughout the State of California and the democratic process.
The Orange County Board of Education took an opposition position earlier this year to AB 764, “The Fair Maps Act,” primarily because it created a private right of action against local bodies for anybody displeased with the redistricting process for any election involving a local redistricting. The Board was deeply concerned that the bill could conceivably compromise consideration of communities of interest in counties where the Board of Supervisors and the Board of Education had the same number of members.
