Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP has an opening for a litigation paralegal in its Los Angeles office. The Ideal candidate has extensive trial experience and is a self-starter who is dedicated, efficient and an independent thinker, who excels when working in a team-oriented environment.

We will consider candidates with a certificate of completion from a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association and at least 8 years’ experience as a Litigation Paralegal in the State of California. A strong understanding and working knowledge of the California Code of Civil Procedure is required as well as the ability to perform legal research; conduct asset searches and basic investigation, draft and issue subpoenas, and draft, summarize and index discovery and documents, medical chronologies and billing summaries. Candidates should also have experience scanning, coding, uploading, storing and printing of documents, as well as developing and implementing databases to manage, sort, index, analyze and summarize large volumes of data. Candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; iManage; Summation; Concordance; and Trial Director.

Education and Experience

  • Paralegal certification from a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association

Haight Brown & Bonesteel is seeking a litigation secretary for the Los Angeles, San Diego or Sacramento office with more than 4 years of experience.

Duties:

  • Prepare, revise, and finalize correspondence, discovery responses, court forms, motions and other legal documents
  • File legal documents in federal and state courts, including e-filing and complex litigation filings
  • Prepare documents for service of process; prepare case “shell” documents for use by attorneys as well as generate table of contents and authorities
  • Schedule appointments and calendaring
  • Monitor litigation deadlines and assist in the execution of those deadlines
  • Review incoming mail for calendaring & distribute to appropriate attorney
  • Coordinate and schedule depositions; prepare notices and subpoenas as needed
  • Schedule and notice independent medical exams (IMEs)

Requirements:

  • Solid knowledge of California and federal court rules for filing & serving discovery, motions and pleadings
  • High proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook, Excel). Knowledge of iManage and CompuLaw is a plus.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills; excellent attendance and reliability
  • High attention to detail; exceptional proofreading skills to ensure that grammar, punctuation, spelling & formatting are accurate
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
