“The leading rule for the lawyer, as for the man of every calling, is diligence.” –Abraham Lincoln

Mr. Moriarty’s central focus is to adhere to this principle in every matter; from the first communication with the client, to the close of file. As a member of Haight Brown & Bonesteel’s Risk Management & Insurance Law, Business Solutions, and Products Liability Practice Groups, Mr. Moriarty has experience with all phases of litigation including early case evaluation, discovery, trial preparation, and trial. He has handled percipient witness and party depositions, drafting and arguing of dispositive motions, participation in alternative dispute resolution forums, and trial.

Risk Management & Insurance Law

Mr. Moriarty has represented both insureds and insurers in litigation involving coverage
disputes. By review of insurance coverage position letters, providing coverage
advice, and the preparation of written coverage opinions, he has become familiar with an array of issues arising from the interpretation of insurance policies.

Products Liability and Business Solutions

Mr. Moriarty has been the handling associate in disputes involving the interpretation of contracts including construction agreements, licensing agreements, confidentiality agreements, arbitration agreements, non-disclosure agreements, non-solicitation agreements, and employment contracts. He has also handled contractual disputes implicating the California Commercial Code, in both state and federal court.

He utilizes a proactive approach by determining potential issues to be adjudicated by dispositive motions before undertaking fact-finding discovery. In this fashion, the discovery phase becomes a means to an end, rather than a mere investigation.

Background

Mr. Moriarty joined Haight Brown & Bonesteel as a law clerk in 2012, working full-time while attending law school in the evenings. In his first two years of practice, he has handled several pro bono matters. In his personal life, he enjoys indoor rock climbing, spending time with his wife and friends, and traveling to historic American sports venues. His trips include the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, Wrigley Field, and Notre Dame Stadium.
